HME Media Group Analyzes Round One

The HME Media Group recently analyzed the winners in the first round of competitive bidding. After compiling the winners, by product category, across all 10 MSAs into a spreadsheet, we found the following:

Complex Rehabilitative Power Wheelchairs and Related Accessories
•    On average, 7 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (11) and Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord, NC-SC (10).
•    The big winners across MSAs were:
o    The SCOOTER Store — Regional representatives of this national chain won bids in 9 of the 10 MSAs
o    ATG Designing Mobility (Cerritos, CA) — Won bids in 5 of the 10 MSAs
•    National Seating & Mobility, a national chain known for its treatment of rehab patients, won bids in only 2 MSAs.
•    There were no bid winners in San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo, PR.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Devices (CPAP), Respiratory Assist Device
•    On average, 22 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, FL (36) and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (34).
•    The big winners across MSAs were:
o    Super Care (City of Industry, CA) — Won bids in all 10 MSAs
o    Cardiosom (Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Carmel, IN; West Chester, OH) — Won bids in 9 of the 10 MSAs
o    American HomePatient (local branches) — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs
o    Excel Respiratory Solutions (Winter Haven, FL — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs
o    RX Stat (St. Petersburg, FL) — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs
o    HEB Home Care (Hurst, TX) — Won bids in 6 of the 10 MSAs
o    Lincare (local branches) — Won bids in 6 of the 10 MSAs
•    The SCOOTER Store (Boca Raton, FL) won a bid in San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo, PR.

Enteral Nutrients, Equipment and Supplies
•    On average, 18 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, FL (32) and Orlando, FL (24).
•    The big winners across MSAs were:
o    American HomePatient (local branches) — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs
o    CareMax Medical Resources (Tampa, FL and some local branches) — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs
o    Health Systems Services (Niagra Falls, NY) — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs
o    Navigator Health Management Solutions (Franklin, TN) — Won bids in 7 of the 10 MSAs
o    Provider Plus (St. Louis, MO) and local branches of The SCOOTER Store each won bids in 4 of the 10 MSAs
•    There were no bid winners in San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo, PR.

Hospital Beds and Related Supplies
•    On average, 28 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (59) and Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, FL (46).
•    The big winners across MSAs were:
o    American HomePatient (local branches) — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs
o    Hill-Rom (regional branches) — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs
o    Lynncore Med Group (Sherman, TX) — Won bids in 4 of the 10 MSAs
o    The SCOOTER Store (local branches) — Won bids in 4 of the 10 MSAs
•    There were no bid winners in San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo, PR.

•    On average, 11 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, FL (19), Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (16) and Orlando, FL (15).
•    The big winners across MSAs were:

•    On average, 29 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, FL (48) and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (43).
•    The big winners across MSAs were:

o    American HomePatient (local branches) — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs
o    CareMax Medical Resources (Tampa, FL and some local branches) — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs

•    On average, 16 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (29) and Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, FL (19).
•    The big winners across MSAs were:
o    Source One Medical (Irvine, CA) — Won bids in 6 of the 10 MSAs
o    National Seating & Mobility (local branches) — Won bids in 5 of the 10 MSAs
o    ATG Designing Mobility (Cerritos, CA) — Won bids in 4 of the 10 MSAs

o    Hoveround (Sarasota, FL) — Won bids in 4 of the 10 MSAs
•    The SCOOTER Store won bids in only 2 MSAs: Cincinnati-Middletown, OH-KY-IN and Kansas City, MO-KS.

Walkers and Related Accessories
•    On average, 17 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, FL (27) and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (24).
•    The big winners across MSAs were:
o    Grove Medical (Greenville, SC) — Won bids in 7 of the 10 MSAs
o    Lynncore Med Group (Sherman, TX) — Won bids in 4 of the 10 MSAs
o    The SCOOTER Store (local branches) — Won bids in 4 of the 10 MSAs

Mail-Order Diabetic Supplies
•    On average, 12 providers per MSA won bids in this category, with the most providers winning in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, FL (18), Cincinnati-Middletown, OH-KY-IN (15) and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (15).
•    The big winners across MSAs were:
o    All States Medical Supply (Arden, NC) — Won bids in all 10 MSAs
o    Cardiocom (Chanhassen, MN) — Won bids in all 10 MSAs
o    Discount Diabetic (Phoenix, AZ) — Won bids in all 10 MSAs
o    Doctor Diabetic Supply (Miami, FL) — Won bids in all 10 MSAs
o    The Home Health Store of Tomball (Tomball, TX) — Won bids in all 10 MSAs
o    B and H Medical (Livonia, MI) — Won bids in 9 of the 10 MSAs
o    All Med Services of Florida (Miami Lakes, FL) — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs
o    R and T Medical (Port Saint Lucie, FL) — Won bids in 8 of the 10 MSAs
o    Medical & Diabetic Supplies (Jupiter, FL) — Won bids in 6 of the 10 MSAs
o    Home Care Delivered (Glen Allen, VA) — Won bids in 5 of the 10 MSAs
o    Abelcare Medical (Cincinnati, OH), Excel Respiratory Solutions (Winter Have, FL) and RX Stat (St. Petersburg, FL) — Each won bids in 4 of the 10 MSAs
•    Analysis shows that a core group of providers won in nearly all MSAs, with only a small number of local providers awarded contracts per MSA.

Support Surfaces (group 2 mattresses and overlays) [Miami only]
•    All bid winners were based in Florida except Hill-Rom, based in Raleigh, NC
•    The SCOOTER Store (Boca Raton, Casselberry, Jacksonville, Orlando, FL) won a bid in this category.
